- Mr. Harper, in a Democracy It Is the Good Of the People not the Crass Attainment of Power that is Paramount

This is just another attempt by Con's to somehow justify their extreme use of modern media to attack the reputation of anyone that dares to oppose them

Based on the Flanaghan fundamental principle of Con'ism: "it doesn't have to be true, it only has to sound plausible",

To suggest that Democratic elections are merely the modern version of civil war and take instruction from the Romans is a blatant Con attempt to justify the use of attack ads.

Civil war has at its goals the crass attainment and maintaining of power concentrated in the hands of, and for the sole benefit of, a few

I agree that does sound like Harper and the Con's

but, Harper does not represent Democracy

The essentials of a Democracy is government for the Good of all the People

Attack ads are a manifestation of modern media, pioneered with huge success in the 1930's by Randolph Hurst in the 1934 California Gubernatorial race - vis.:

"The resulting smear campaign . . . . direct mail, motion picture propaganda, billboards, pamphlets and coordination between every major newspaper . . .

This marriage of propaganda, consultants, advertising and corporate money produced an awesome, scorched-earth effort that has become a prototype for campaigns today. . . . "

Greg-Mitchells-The-Campaign-of-the-Century

It's scary how closely this parallels the Harper attack ads.

To suggest that Democratic elections are merely the modern version of civil war is a blatant attempt to justify the use of attack ads.

Nor ought we look to the Romans for justification as Flanaghan is doing now and in the past

as I posted to cicblog, 13 Jul.'09:

'It is very revealing that Harper and the Cons would turn to Roman politics for justification of their extremely negative attack ads'

"Good comparison, Tom.

- It is very revealing that Harper and the Cons would turn to Roman politics for justification of their extremely negative attack ads and other political methodologies.

Ever since the advent of Christianity, we have not turned to the Romans for our moral instructions.

The Roman method of politics lead to dictatorship and finally degradation and ruin. Not the best example for political instruction. As far as I can see for the last 2000 years our society has considered the Roman Republic and her politics corrupt in the extreme. Enter stage right Bush and Harper.
