The "Ignatieff-led Coalition" and its "soft-on-crime agenda", Ira Basen, April 10, 2011

A scientific study out of University College London suggests that politically:
- right leaning people have a more pronounced amygdala - a primitive part of the brain associated with emotion
- liberal leaning had thicker anterior cingulates - which is an area associated with anticipation and decision-making
(dailymail.co.uk, 29 Dec.'10)
This could easily explain Harper approaching voters on an entirely emotional basis completely devoid of logic, rationality and facts
regarding:
- his forceful proclamations regarding 'tough on crime'
e.g., Stewart - Jackson, Report, Sep.'09, "A Flawed Compass"
The response by the Con’s: “The professor has a different philosophy than us,” Van Loan (to CBC)
"There is no rationale or excuse for confining those who are not physically dangerous, nor for reducing their access to treatment, which is cheaper, more effective, and more humane than prison, though less likely to appeal to knuckle-dragging deadbeats of the jail ’em, flog ’em, hang ’em school."
Conrad Black (NP 19 Feb.'11)
- his unfounded rants on 'losers can't form governments'
and simply ignoring previously he felt it was legally allowed and something the GG ought to consider.
- his bald statements that somehow replacing Harper and the Con's would destabilize the Canadian economy without any attempt at a factual underpinning
It could also explain why Ignatieff 6 Apr.
"blasted his rival [Harper] for suggesting that anything other than a Conservative majority would be 'unstable'.
[Harper]’s trying to make you scared of democracy if voters make a choice he doesn’t like,
[Harper]’s trying to make you scared of your own political choices… It’s ridiculous. And what what’s more ridiculous is that he’s trying to make you afraid of me, myself.”
(blog.decisioncanada.ca, 6 Apr)
and explain how
- Harper has a core of 33% right wing extremist die-hards who support him no matter what
What it doesn't explain is the Moderate Majority not consolidating and voting to get rid of this Harper government based on fear.
